About Us

The Parents Association for the Mentally Handicapped (PAMENCAP), Godavarikhani which was Registered on 06-03-‘87 for the welfare of Mentally Handicapped and their families started a Special School in Fertilizer Corporation of India, Ramagundam in October, 1987 which was subjected to closed within a span of 6 months due to the financial constrains. Later the President, PAMENCAP, Godavarikhani Mr. D.Krishna Kumar has taken initiation by going Pillar to Post. After repeated representations for a period of 2 years to the higher management of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), succeeded in establishment of three (3) Special Classes under integrated education programme at Sector-I High School, Godavarikhani on 16-03-1988 with the technical guidance and complete help of the then Director, National Institute for Mentally Handicapped (NIMH, Secunderabad) and his team.

The Special Classes were first of their kind in entire Telangana Region except Hyderabad . With the help of Singareni Collieries Company Limited a special Play ground, Play articles and 16 Seater Van have been acquired. The British Director High Commissioner MC. Cluney visited the school and presented a color TV and VCR during 1992. The Parents’ Workshops and Training Programmes for Disabled Children and Teachers have been very frequently conducted.   Disabled day celebrations and other functions were conducted by involving MLAs (Member of Legislative Assembly), SCCL officers, Government Officers to create awareness on the problem of the Special Children/Families.

The major turning point for starting the Manochaitanya Vocational Training Centre (MCVTC) is the arrival of Sri APVN Sharma, IAS, Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD), The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) accompanied by Sri Heeralal Samariya, IAS on 14-10-1997 to the special classes.   Later the SCCL Management has allotted 2 Acres of Company land, 2 rooms building on nominal lease to the Manochaitanya VTC.

Sri APVN Sharma took personal initiation and arranged laying of foundation stone of VTC by Sri Dilip Ray and then Hon’ble Minister for Coal on 30-07-1998. The District Collector Sri Debabratha Kantha, IAS visited the school and inaugurated VTC on 02-01-‘99 by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, which is a Historical day in the history of PAMENCAP/MANOCHAITANYA. The Hon’ble Chief Minister has spent one hour in the premises of Manochaitanya and assured for sanction of additional building to VTC Compound wall and Rs.20 Lakhs Corpus Fund which was materialized later on.

Dr. Ch.Suguna Kumari, MP (Member of Parliament), Peddapalli has allotted Rs.1 Lakh from MP Lads for construction of 2 Shopping outlets and inaugurated personally.

The MCVTC and Sheltered Workshop started functioning from 02-01-1999. Ms. Thressia Kutty, (National Awardee), the Lecturer in Vocational Training and Employee, NIMH accompanied by Smt. V.R.P.Sheilaja Rao visited the Special School and conducted 3 days Parents meeting and finally prepared a draft for starting of Vocational trades and requirement of equipment. On the representation of President, PAMENCAP, with the initiation of Sri A.P.V.N. Sharma, the SCCL C&MD has deputed Sri M.Venkataramana of Singareni Collieries High School, Sector-II, Godavarikhani (officially) to undergo one year Diploma Course in DVTE (MR) for 1997-‘98 to National Institute for Mentally Handicapped, Secunderabad. After successful completion, he has been posted to MCVTC as overall Incharge of the Vocational activity. On the advice of NIMH, all the Children and Parents of Mentally Handicapped Children have been taken to Hyderabad for 2 days i.e., on April 15th and 16th of 1998 to have a practical visit to different Vocational Institutions.
